  • Wilczyński Mariusz

    MARIUSZ “THE WOLF” WILCZYŃSKI was born in 1964. He is a animated film director, performer and set designer. He graduated in Painting and Wood Engraving at the Łódź Academy of Fine Arts in 1986. He has made many original animated films and is responsible for creating over 200 videoclips for books, music videos and the animated production design for TVP Kultura (Polish National TV Culture Channel). He lectured in classical animation at the University of Arts and Industrial Design in Linz (2003-2005) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (2003-2007) and from 2007 has been lecturing in classical animation at the National Film School in Łódź. In 2007, he was given a retrospective by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, to date the only Polish animated film maker to have had this honour.

    WILKANOC (“Wilkanoc”: a play on the Polish word for Easter “Wielkanoc” and Wilczyński’s nickname “Wilk” – the Wolf) is performance art, a happening, during which Wilczyński improvises drawing to music live. Wilczyński’s animated films accompany his improvisations. Many famous guest musicians have taken part in his performances including, Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Włodzimierz Kiniorski, Pink Freud, Fisz and Emade, Małe Instrumenty, Leszek Możdżer and Pogodno.
