Gratz, Joan C.
Joan C. Gratz was born in 1941 in Los Angeles. She pioneered the animation technique known as claypainting. She is an accomplished animator, producer and director. Gratz worked with Will Vinton Studios from 1977 to 1987 when she set up her own studio – “Gratzfilm”. Some of her best known works are “Candyman” (1988) and “Kubla Khan” (2010). “Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase”, a truly outstanding short, won an Academy Award in 1992.
