Born in Turin, he graduated from the local Università degli Studi. He produces animated television programs and series. He is also the founder and current president of the Italian branch of ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation). Bastiancich has been a board member of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema in Turin and of the Cartoon-Media Programme, where he defines the strategies for the development of the animation industry in Europe. He teaches history and language of animated film at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. In 2001 he founded the Animation Department in Turin.
From 1995 to 2008 he served as an animation consultant in RAI (Radio Televisione Italiana). The Italian public broadcaster also backed the International Television Animation Festival “Cartoons on the Bay” organized by Bastiancich. For several years, he has been the publishing director of the ASIFA’s international magazine “Animafilm”. Bastiancich is the author of many articles, essays and books, including two monographs: on Norman McLaren and Lotte Reiniger.
According to the “Animation Magazine”, he is one of the top-fifteen most influential people of the European animation industry.
