Ferenc Cakó was born in 1950 in Budapest. In 1973 he graduated from the College of Creative Arts. While still in college, he won several prizes as an amateur animation filmmaker. From 1973 to 1991 he worked for the Pannonia Film Studio. He used puppet, clay and paper-cut techniques in his films, e.g. in “King’s Cold” (1981) – a film dedicated to John Halas. He then focused on sand animation.
Cakó’s first significant success was at the Annecy Film Festival in 1982 where he presented his “Ad Astra”. His other films, including “Ashes” (1994), “Labyrinth” (1999), “Stones” (2000), “The Fox and the Raven” (2003), “Face” (2008), have garnished several national and international festival awards in Berlin, Cannes, Kecskemét etc.
