  • Wilczyński Mariusz

    Mariusz Wilczynski was born 1964 in Poland. Animator, artist, performer and set designer. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. Initially he dedicated himself mainly to art and performance. His paintings were exhibited in many countries: Poland, Japan, England, Holland, Spain, the USA, Hungary...His drawings were published in Polish weekly magazines.
    First 10 years after the graduation he became interested in animation. In the late ‘90s "Wilk" created about 200 videos for books, so-called "book-clips' for Polish Television. The videos illustrated the main themes of the most interesting books published at that time. In addition he collaborated on a similar weekly program called "I Like to Read" for Polish TV. His animated shorts were known as "Male Wilki" (Little Wolves, after his nickname). He created a number of short animated films promoting Poland and Polish culture aimed for The European Union.
    Wilk is an author of the animation spots, jingles and the overall graphic design for Polish Television “Culture” channel, which won the Hot Bird TV Award in Venice in 2006. For his animated music videos he was awarded 6 times (Yach award).
    He is the first Polish artist who had a retrospective exhibition of his work at The Museum of Modern Art MoMa in New York. Joshua Siegel, a film curator at the MoMa introduced Wilk as the one of the most important animators in the world.
    His following animation films were awarded „SPRAWIEDLIWOSC” (1996), „ALLEGRO MA NON TROPPO” 1988, „NIENAWIDZE” 1999, „FROM THE GREEN HILL” 2000, W¦RÓD NOCNEJ CISZY 2001, NIESTETY 2005.
    The world’s premiere of KIZI MIZI took place in 2007 at the Modern Art Museum in New York. The film was shown at the 2008 Berlin Festival.

    And finally, as a performer, Wilczynski has taken part at art festivals WRO Media in Wroclaw, Lodz, Edinburgh, and the AVE Multimedial Festival in Arnhem, the Netherlands.
